Aww, how could we be so cavalier in being dismissive of the future of polar bear life, in our bid to be pragmatic men in the real world of affairs - real men aren't afraid of a few extra degrees! This is even more macho in the American southwest, since the region already vies with Hades for being the most uninhabitable in summer. There is now an effort to get the bears listed as an endangered species, with the hope that the listing will further efforts to curb global warming in general, such as curbing greenhouse gasses.

Yet, in that rhetorical undertow comes back the question: Who will save us from ourselves?
