Socks in the Winter

Monk picked up Gabe's call. She actually said something on the machine this time, and it was enough for Monk to give in on this lonely Friday night.
The sweetest and brightest moment was when she was assuring Monk that she is not going to have any lovers soon, and this is because it is winter. Monk laughed, recalling that this was one of their first bases of conversation when she started coming into his life in earnest, "That's right! That sock thing.... It's been a year."
Still, Monk tells her that he is going back to not answering her calls, and that he shouldn't have picked up this call. She is determined to keep calling. She says, "I like you."

I'm not positively liked by so many people that I should be turning that away, especially from one as charming and delightful as she. But so much was promised. I'm not pride-free as a saint.
