France Backs Away from European Union

This is very surprising news, after living with the mindset that the French were looking to dominate Europe through a more consolidated European Union. Maybe there is a real split between the commoners and the governing elite.

What is funny about that last line from the poor sector, comparing this rejection with France's 1789 revolution, is that that revolution is understood to be a catastrophe and tragedy.
Although one supposes that this is good for the American interests, keeping the Europeans divided and less effectual in countering American policy, this also means that we probably cannot look to Europe to be a more effective strategic partner either.
