I Never Danced

Last night, upon finishing the grocery list on Father’s computer, I went through my e-mail and saw a notice that the movie “Made In Heaven” is available on DVD. I recall putting in a request for such a notice years ago. Could this go back to the CompuServe days? I don’t think so, but it feels close to that. I was still feeling the thrill of clicking things, as though the Internet was a kind of treasure hunt.

Unfortunately, the opportunity has caught me at a bad time, running very short on dough, and with a number of books I am itching to get. The movie is not a pressing need. I’ve seen it a lot, and I have a tape of it, recorded from a cable-run. Heaven can wait.

Browsing through some of the reviews, I may have uncovered the mystery of the Emmett character. I was wondering who played him, as the credits only say that he played himself. But who was he that played himself? One cannot recall him from other works.

The kindly reviewer said Debra Winger played him. Your jaw has to drop at that, though it does explain Emmett’s overly androgyny being. Apparently, Debra and Timothy Hutton were married at the time, and this was one of the ways they played lovey-dovey with each other. In my next life, I really need to fall in love with someone; it sounds like a lot of fun.

I have something else to watch out for when I see the movie again. I think the reviewer said that Debra also does a cameo in the movie, in her womanly self. I haven’t been able to recall it. It’s probably a half-focused background extra, but I’ll look for her next time.
