I kind of regret not having to go out and get the paper in the morning.

"I thought you said that you were going to make a practice of stepping out and policing the area."

I did say something like that. But without the necessity of the chore, the intention, thus ungrounded, just floats away.

LOL That was a sharp-hitting message scrolling on the bottom of MSNBC's screen: "The leader of the free world meets Donald Trump." Germany's leader Angela Merkel. Of course, the president of the United States used to be the undisputed leader of the free world.

"Not anymore."

Well, at least that was a new twist on the 'woman held captive in dungeon' movie: she's a serial killer!

"LOL And no nudity, not a single titty, poor Monk!"

Tell me about it! It's such a sleezoid movie, you'd think they would gladly provide that bit of sweetener to win over their curious audience. But, no, that would be ... what, compromising their art?

"Pfft, what do you have to complain about? It's not as though you don't have tons of that crappy rapey shit on the Internet."

True. And I suppose that does make it easier to bear. In the 1990s, this sort of empty teasing would drive me up the wall.

David Brooks does a nice job characterizing Trump's budget:

Donald Trump doesn’t really care about domestic policy; he mostly cares about testosterone.

He wants to cut any part of government that may seem soft and nurturing, like poverty programs. He wants to cut any program that might seem emotional and airy-fairy, like the National Endowment for the Arts. He wants to cut any program that might seem smart and nerdy, like the National Institutes of Health.

But he wants to increase funding for every program that seems manly, hard, muscular and ripped, like the military and armed antiterrorism programs.

Indeed, the Trump budget looks less like a political philosophy and more like a sexual fantasy. It lavishes attention on every aspect of hard power and slashes away at anything that isn’t.

"He's just grabbing America by the pussy."

He is definitely having his way with us.

'Invalid Number'? Hmm, that's the first time the ID caller ever coughed that up.

"Maybe it's someone from another dimension, and the phone company just really fucked up."

If it is, it's probably still just another debt collector. I'm sure they're everywhere.

Dr. G.

Funny, I have been suffering a resurgence of angry fantasies over Dr. G., in which he finally decides that he wants to talk to me, after twenty years, and I angrily reply, "What the fuck is there to talk about now?" And I hang up.

Maybe this is because I am feeling my age more lately, so that I am feeling anew the bitterness over what my life never became.

Shit, it's getting dark. I should take care of that outside stuff: the recycle bin, the mail.

Fuck, I also need to shave.

"Why are you so hurried and stressed? You're just a Solitaire-playing fool? What is time to you? Shouldn't you be the most relaxed and easy-going person in the world, at least for somebody who doesn't do drugs?"

Yeah, that should be the way it is. I don't know. Somehow I always feel like I am behind schedule, like there is something I am supposed to do, despite living my whole adult life about as responsibility-free as one can be without being in a coma. I don't know what that's about. But it is getting dark.

Whoa, the next-door neighbor is already using the air-conditioner. It was a touch warm this afternoon, but only the lightest touch. I came close to taking off my T-shirt but decided that I didn't need to.

"I love hot weather! The hotter the better."

Yeah, you are a bit tropical, in a lot of ways.

"Hah, you're one to talk. You should be, too."

Probably. Maybe it was my childhood time spent up north and in snowy climes that broke me of my tolerance for heat. I cannot stand it now.

"Take it easier with that razor, cowboy! You don't want to catch any of your long head of hair in those rotating blades."

Heh, yeah, that could hurt.

My hair is about long enough for my annual haircut. Though, I am actually thinking about trying to hold out until May. But probably no sooner than the second half of April.
